Lucian Freud

1922 - 2011 / British

Freud’s designs for textiles bare little similarity for the powerful figurative work that he would later become so well known for. Freud did not create a design for the Ascher Squares project but rather created a series of four textile designs depicting lizard like creatures in repeat crawling over a patterned background. The designs are somewhat surreal in form and were not put into production beyond initial strike-offs.
